How to Work with Challenging Patients, Residents, Clients

and Their Families

This presentation (click here for a copy of the presentation: Diff People ESCOTA January 2019.pptx) will review the functions of challenging behavior and assist participants in analyzing situations through use of case vignettes; develop a positive plan of intervention involving a therapeutic change process; techniques to reduce interference and how to stay safe in the workplace.

This presentation will provide 1.5 continuing education hours for participating licensed social workers and certified case managers who complete the presentation evaluation and provide their license #.

Susan F. Cohn, LCSW, MPH

Bios:

Anne B. Pagano, LCSW, ACSW, BCD, C-ASWCM, is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 35 years’ experience in direct clinical services, supervision and administration in hospitals, long-term care facilities, and geriatric care management.  She is the founder of Aging Remix, Inc., an organization that provides continuing education presentations on issues of aging, geriatric mental health, ethics and clinical best practices.  She is also the Executive Director of the Hoarding Disorder Resource and Training Group, Inc., providing continuing educational trainings and consultations to professionals, families and community organizations.  Anne has trained with Hoarding Disorder Research specialists Dr. Randy Frost and Dr. Gail Steketee and has presented at numerous national conferences.  She also maintains a Geriatric Care Management practice.

Anne holds Master’s in Social Work from Simmons College School of Social Work in Boston, a Post-Master’s Certificate in Gerontology from the Hunter-Brookdale Center on Aging in New York City, and has taught at the Fordham University School of Social Work as an adjunct professor. 

Susan F. Cohn, LCSW, MPH is a licensed clinical social worker with nearly 4decades of experience providing social work and mental health services to older adults.  Susan developed health promotion programs for the NYC Department for the Aging, was the founding Director of the Brookdale Respite Program for caregivers of Alzheimer’s patients, coordinated the Andrus Scholar Program at Fordham’s School of Social Work and served as the Associate Director at Jarvie Commonweal Service.

Susan is the Director of Clinical Education for Aging ReMix, an organization that provides continuing education workshops for professionals in the field of aging and mental health.  Most recently, she was the Outreach Coordinator at the Carter Burden Network’s Elder Abuse Program.  Susan maintains a private psychotherapy practice in Westchester County, NY.

Susan holds Masters Degrees in Social Work and Public Health from Columbia University.
